The modern consumer is an ecologically aware consumer. We are often asked about our environmental practices: do we know the source of our materials and how do we dispose of old flooring? At Reform Flooring, we take our commitment to the environment extremely seriously. To that end, we only work with manufacturing firms who have responsible attitudes towards their source materials. We also take great care when it comes to disposing of your old flooring.
Commitment to the Environment
Environmentally aware customers are particularly anxious to ensure that any old vinyl that we rip up doesn’t end up in landfill, so we thought we’d take the time to explain how we dispose of your old vinyl flooring. Reform Flooring have partnered with a vinyl reclamation firm called Recofloor to ensure that all the old vinyl flooring we take out of our customers’ homes is responsibly disposed of.
A Partnership with Recofloor
Recofloor was founded in 2009 by big league flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor. They were concerned at the amount of vinyl that was being thrown away and figured that a partnership between distributors, contractors, and construction projects was the best way to make sure that waste vinyl flooring was collected and recycled. This benefits the environment by reducing the amount of waste vinyl that ends up in landfill sites and reduces disposal costs for contractors. A win-win business model.
A Successful Scheme
The scheme was a resounding success. By 2015 over 650 contractors had signed up for the scheme and Recofloor has been able to collect over 3000 tonnes of material in the 8 years of the scheme’s existence.
Doing Our Bit
Reform Flooring are a comparatively small company, but we are proud to have done our bit. Each of our fitters places any waste vinyl flooring into bulk bags when they finish a job and Recofloor collect it for recycling. It soon mounts up. Our achievement was recognised at last year’s Recofloor Awards where we were awarded the Gold Award that is reserved for companies that have recycled over a tonne of vinyl per fitter!
