Hardwood Flooring: Choosing the Right Floor for Your Home

Posted on: 25th August 2015

When it comes to purchasing a new home, the look of a well-maintained wooden floor is nearly always a key selling point. People are drawn to their natural beauty and warmth underfoot, but unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to enjoy such a feature in their home. However, if you would like to add an elegant wood floor to your home, a hardwood floor will not only improve the look of your home but also add value.

Here are a few things to bear in mind when choosing your hardwood floor:

  • Durability: If you have small children or pets, you may be worried about the marks and scratches which could cause imperfections in a new wood floor. When compared to laminate flooring, hardwood floors are extremely durable. Should an imperfection occur, simply sand your floor down and refinish to ensure that it continues looking great for many years to come.
  • Styles: Depending on the look and feel of your property, you may want to shop around to find a hardwood floor that blends seamlessly with your home. You may opt for boards which look shiny and new, or alternatively ones which offer a distressed and antique finish. Whichever look you are going for, chances are we can source a colour or style to complement.
  • Board Widths: If you are shopping for a wood floor for the first time, choosing between the different board widths can be confusing. Most people presume that if you have a small room it is best to opt for narrow boards, but this is not necessarily the case. Wide boards can create an equally good looking floor in a small room, so it is definitely worth putting consideration into the look you want to achieve.
