How to Make Carpet Work in a Bathroom

Posted on: 2nd July 2015

Carpet is not necessarily the first type of flooring you consider for your bathroom but, believe it or not, it is quite popular. The soft texture of carpet in-between your toes is very appealing but how do you make it work in a bathroom? We have a few recommendations to share with you.

Recommendations

  • Pile: The lower the pile (thickness) the less likely problems will occur due to a reduced amount of moisture that's absorbed.
  • Minimise moisture: Avoid excessive water - just as you would mop up puddles of water from impervious surfaces, do the same with your bathroom carpet. A wet and dry vacuum cleaner is the best tool for getting out moisture from carpet quickly.
  • Bath mat: You can lay down a bath mat on top of the carpet – although this may seem odd to place carpet over carpet but the first layer will catch most of the water from people exiting the shower or bath.
  • Choose carpet made from Polypropylene: Look for 100% polypropylene material and avoid anything organic such as wool. Polypropylene is found in a lot of carpets and we have a variety of them at our showroom.
  • Flotex: This is a unique type of flooring which is ideal for bathrooms. It is hard wearing and durable as well as being water and rot proof. It has all the characteristics of a resilient floor with the warmth and comfort of a carpet. It's available in a range of different designs and colours including their naturals design (natural wood style). It has consistent protection against bacteria due to its anti-microbial Sanitized treatment.
