The manufacture of quality rugs and carpets has a long history on these islands. Our tradition of sheep farming combined with the development of steam-operated weaving machines during the Industrial Revolution meant that we led the way in carpet quality and innovation for centuries. Here are five companies that continue that tradition to this day.
Brintons
Founded in 1683 in Kidderminster – the carpet capital of Great Britain – Brintons pioneered the 80/20 wool/nylon blend. A blend that delivers the luxury feel and the long durability that is the hallmark of a Brintons carpet.
If you are looking for something simple but effective, check out their Bell Twist range – available in over 70 colours.
Cavalier
Cavalier started out as market traders and their commitment to quality products and services continues to the present day. They recently won ‘Best Tufted Stock Product’ at the International Wool carpet and Rug Awards.
The Stainless Heather range is manufactured from 100% polypropylene and guaranteed to be stain resistant. Ideal if you have kids and pets.
Cormar
Lancashire carpet weavers, Cormar, are committed to sustainable manufacture. All the carpets that come out of their two mills are produced from quality raw materials. They are an independent family-owned company who recommend that their carpets are installed by trained fitters.
For a traditional look, choose Malabar Textures 100% pure wool Cormar carpets – available in 16 natural and stone colours.
Kingsmead
Kingsmead have been manufacturing carpets in Ayrshire for more than 40 years. They specialise in plain and striped carpets and import high quality wool from New Zealand.

Westex
West Yorkshire has a long tradition of carpet manufacture – so it was a logical place for Westex to set up shop in the early Eighties. These are technologically advanced carpets that are treated to prevent stains, dust mites and moths.
The Ultima Twist range has a twofold yarn that offers exceptional durability.
