What We Do With Your Old Flooring

Posted on: 8th April 2016

We increasingly find our customers are concerned with environmental issues. They want to know that the environmental practices of the companies we source our products from are sound, and want to be reassured that we are disposing of their old flooring in a responsible way. At Reform Flooring, we take our commitment to the environment seriously, and we partner with manufacturing firms who have responsible attitudes to sourcing materials. We also take great care when it comes to disposing of your old flooring.

Our Partnership with Recofloor

Recofloor is a vinyl take-back scheme founded in 2009 by leading flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor. Before Recofloor came along a lot of vinyl flooring was being (legally but wastefully) disposed of in landfill sites around the country. Recofloor’s idea was to form partnerships with distributors, contractors, and construction projects to make sure waste vinyl flooring was collected and recycled, benefitting the environment and reducing waste disposal costs by up to 70%.

The scheme was a big success. In 2015, Recofloor picked up over 500 tonnes of material from its 650 members around the country, a record year that brought the total tonnage recycled by Recofloor up to 2,700 tonnes. Reform Flooring is proud to be a part of that achievement; last month we were awarded Gold at the annual Recofloor Awards for our contribution.

Recycling What We Can

At Reform Flooring, we recycle as much as we can. We recycle cardboard, paper and pallets, and what flooring can’t be recycled we ensure is disposed of safely.
