Room By Room Carpeting Guide For Your Home

Posted on: 15th October 2014

If you are looking to inject colour, luxury and comfort into your home, nothing does the job better than a good quality carpet. In the majority of cases the beautifully patterned or luxurious carpet you choose will be durable enough to meet the demands of your home and will continue to look good for many years to come. There are however some areas of your home where it pays to invest in a carpet with excellent wear properties to ensure that high levels of footfall do not slowly take their toll on your carpet.

We have therefore put together the following guide to encourage you to think about the different areas of your home, the way you use them, and the impact that may have on your chosen floor covering.

Hallway

In most instances your hallway will be one of the first areas a guest sees when they visit your property – it therefore pays to make a good impression. By injecting colour into your carpet it is possible to make a real design statement. However, as an area of the house exposed to a lot of coming and going, we would recommend investing in a durable wool mix carpet.

Living Room

As the hub of your household, your living room is going to receive significant footfall. We would recommend opting for a hard-wearing carpet over luxury and appearance, especially if your house if full of young children and teenagers. In that instance you may want to consider a stain resistant polypropylene.

Dining Room

As one of the ‘showcase rooms’ in your home a lot of effort and expense often goes into decorating a dining room. This means you can really go to town with your chosen carpet – plain, patterned or loop piled, we would recommend choosing something attractive that demonstrates your design tastes.

Stairs and Landing

Similar to your hallway, the stairs and landing in your home are likely to receive a considerable amount of wear, so a durable carpet is recommended. In terms of design, combining a striped carpet on the stairs with a plain carpet in the hall can help to make a feature of your stairs. Stair runners can also help to introduce colour and pattern into this area of your home.

Bedroom

When you wake up in the morning there is nothing like stepping out of bed onto warm carpet rather than chilly wooden floors. Your bedroom is a very personal space, so don’t be afraid to go for something unashamedly decadent, sophisticated and luxurious. If your chosen carpet comes in more than one weight you can save money by not going for the heavier weight as this is one of the quietest rooms in your home.

Bathroom

Many people visit our showroom with the common misconception that your cannot have carpet in your bathroom – something that is simply not true. Saying that, we would not recommend carpet if you have young children and the floor is going to be regularly soaked from water splashing over the side of your bath.

Top Tip: If you are carpeting throughout your property, be sure to allocate the biggest proportion of your budget to rooms that are exposed to significant footfall, including the hall, stairs and lounge.
