5 Interior Design Trends You Need to Know About for 2016

Posted on: 8th October 2015

It’s October. The New Year is only a few months away, and already, designers are creating new trends for 2016. At Reform Flooring, we like to stay ahead of the game – so we’re giving you a sneak peek of the home décor styles everyone will be talking about in 2016.

Trend #1: Hand-crafted and home-grown.

In the design world, supporting local artisans is something everyone can get behind. Perhaps that’s why natural fibres and handwoven textiles are going to take centre stage in 2016. Having something beautiful and sustainable in your home is an idea we love – that’s why we have a stunning range of natural flooring made from ethically sourced materials.

Trend #2: Metals and metallics.

Retro style is in, and accessorising with brass, gold and copper tones can give your home that fifties luxe edge. Bring in some bling with warm-toned metals: mirrors, lamps and occasional tables are small gilt furnishings that can give your room an instant update.

Trend #3: Give nature a home.

Organic shapes and textures are just one way of bringing the outdoors in. Florals and houseplants are back – but they’ve been toned down a notch since the wild seventies. Even taxidermy is fashionable now Victoriana has made an eccentric comeback. Go au natural with elegant wood flooring, or fake it with durable vinyl that looks gorgeous but costs less.

Trend #4: A taste of the exotic.

Tribal prints and tropical motifs are big, bright and beautiful – and all the rage. Bold colours and stylised designs are what’s hot for fabrics and wallpapers in 2016. Animals are in, so dust off that leopard print rug you haven’t used in 30 years and take a walk on the wild side.

Trend #5: Lipstick pink.

The colour palette for 2016 is shades of peach, pink, and red – but deep moody shades of navy, green and purple are there as accents, and look stunning with shiny metallics.
