Modern Library Flooring: Heavy Footfall and Hardwearing Floors

Posted on: 26th April 2016

Despite the rise of the internet, public libraries are enduringly popular. In fact, the Norfolk & Norwich Millennium library is the UK’s most popular – what a learned bunch we are! You might not think about it, but library flooring is very important, just as any flooring is for a public space.

Hardwearing Library Flooring

Modern library flooring must be hardwearing to be able to cope with the heavy footfall of a public space. Carpet with a high nylon content fits the bill, or vinyl is a cheap and durable alternative. We installed a mix of hardwearing carpet tiles and vinyl flooring at Wymondham Library for a durable, easy-to-clean finish.

Directing the Flow of Traffic

The eyes of the average library visitor will be scanning the bookshelves for the latest bestseller or forgotten gem, but modern library flooring could catch their eye. Subtle directions can be signified by library flooring. Zones can be indicated by different colours. For instance, the children’s section might be differentiated from the rest of the space by bold primary colours. Bookworms negotiating an unfamiliar space can be directed by pathways of a different colour or texture. In this way, modern library flooring can be used to help people find their way around.

We have a long experience fitting floors in commercial and public buildings, from libraries to gymnasiums. If you have a commercial space that needs a hardwearing floor, get in touch. You can call us on 01603 879359.
