Staying Warm this Winter: Cosy Carpets

Posted on: 25th September 2015

The Romans knew that the secret to a warm house is a warm floor. The Roman architect and engineer Marcus Vitruvius wrote about a system of underfloor heating called the hypocaust. This was essentially a furnace that piped hot fumes through cavities in the floors and walls. A system of tiling using an early form of concrete ensured that the pollutants stayed out of the inhabited rooms. The cost of the fuel was prohibitively expensive, so the hypocaust heating system was found in only the most exclusive villas and public baths.

Underfloor heating systems have evolved a bit since the hypocaust. If you have an underfloor heating system, Reform Flooring can lay a suitable floor in a range of attractive woods

In the standard centrally-heated home, never underestimate the importance of a good carpet. Anyone who has walked on cold kitchen tiles in their bare feet on a chilly morning appreciates the insulative properties of a cosy sitting-room carpet.

At Reform Flooring, we stock a range of thick carpets from the industry’s leading manufacturers, including:

  • Brintons
  • Cavalier
  • Cormar
  • Kingsmead
  • Westex

If you would prefer to get your carpet from a third party supplier, we are more than happy to fit that for you as well.

Whether you are looking for a hard-wearing floor that can be warmed by pipes or an attractive carpet that will keep your toes warm, be sure to visit our showroom on Norwich Road, Lenwade before the winter kicks in.
