CHAS

The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) was established in 1997 by a group of health and safety procurement professionals who aimed to:

• Work with buyers and suppliers across Great Britain to improve health and safety standards.
• Remove the necessity for buyers and supplier to make duplicated safety applications.

There are a number of benefits, both to suppliers and buyers, of being a CHAS registered company, including:

• It demonstrates to buyers that a supplier is compliant with all important health and safety laws.
• Upon demonstrating this compliance it gives suppliers the ability to work for all CHAS buyers.
• Reduces inconsistencies. Previously suppliers may have been judged compliant with one buyers health and safety standards, whilst failing with others.
• CHAS offer suppliers guidance and suggestions of improvement on any weaknesses in their safety management.
• Saves both suppliers and buyers time and resources.
